If there’s something I want you to know about me right away is that when I get a camera in my hands my world is transformed. Magic happens.
I was born in Santiago de Cuba, the second most important city of the island of Cuba. I grew up there until I moved to Havana to study Software Systems Engineering at Havana’s Polytechnic University. I graduated in 1990 with the highest honors. In 1995 I moved to the USA. Since then Miami, the "Magic City", has been my home, the place where I feel I belong. Since 1998, I have devoted my professional career to the public sector as an IT Developer and Computer Systems Analyst for Miami-Dade County's Information Technology Department.
It was around the end of the 20th century that I started a professional training in web development, getting fascinated by the world of graphic design. Through it I found that the visual image and more specifically the photograph was my weapon to explore the world that surrounded me. I took formal photography classes at Miami-Dade College and from the Professional Photography Course of the New York Institute of Photography. But I have to admit that the core of my body of knowledge in photography comes from self-studying and shooting in the morning, in the afternoon, at night, and even in my dreams.
Having photography as my passion and my calling in life made traveling a necessity, a deep desire to explore the world, to meet people of other cultures, to discover our similarities as human beings emerging from our differences. So far, I have been exploring America, the beautiful, finding road trips as a great way to explore small towns and big cities. But I have also traveled all the way from our neighbor islands of The Bahamas to the fascinating distant land of Australia. It is a never ending journey where I have found that human beings, their feelings, and their emotions are at the front and center of my photographic works.
If you feel connected to the heart behind my work, I can’t wait to hear from you.
And the journey continues...
