Miami Urban Silence in Times of Covid-19 (2020)
Rarely do I photograph a street scene devoid of human presence. During the COVID-19 pandemic, seeking solace from isolation, I embarked on nocturnal drives through the city. What I encountered was a juxtaposition: modern lighting illuminating desolate streets, empty businesses, and a city seemingly asleep at dusk. Driving slowly, I savored the visual feast—capturing lights, colors, shapes, and architectural details. It was a luxury, devoid of the usual Miami cacophony, allowing me to pause whenever a scene beckoned for a snapshot. These images, unlike the iconic art deco hotels of Ocean Drive, showcase ordinary streets and spaces overlooked in daily life. Yet, through my lens, they reveal aesthetic nuances reflecting the current state not just of the city, but of the nation and the world.
